A senior figure at the Vatican has commented on controversy surrounding disgraced cloning scientist Prof. Hwang Woo-suks embryonic stem cell research. Bishop Elio Sgreccia, the president of the Pontifical Academy for Life in the Vatican, said Korean society went against ethics and instead chose its own advancement.

The cleric said this was as perilous as dashing down a slope without brakes. In an interview with the Catholic Times, Sgreccia reiterated the churchs support for adult stem cell research, saying, It is clear that there is a better way to carry out scientific research than the easy way, which destroys human embryos.
