The World Stem Cell Hub is
setting up an emergency management team following the resignation of
cloning pioneer Prof. Hwang Woo-suk as its president last week over an
ethics scandal. The hub said on Sunday it would assemble within this
week a group of stem cell researchers to fine-tune its operating
policies and redraft guidelines and ethics code. A spokesman at the center said the position of president would
remain vacant for the time being. Experts on bioethics will be part of
the emergency team. The World Stem Cell Hub is designed to provide an
international center for research. Details on the emergency committee
and the progress of international joint research projects will be
announced when Hwang collaborator Ahn Cu-rie, a medical professor at
SNU, returns from an official trip this week.
